Tiny Desk .

I am currently doing my final year at Sophumelela Secondary School . For me the school has been a basket full of easter eggs or rather my oyster . I say this because the school unlike any other place has given me the opportunity to " find myself " .

High school is rather overwhelming especially in your first year . Like any typical teenager when I got to the school I was nervous and had problems making friends.Fortunately the school has a wide range of clubs , extracurricular activities and teams and I found myself in the school's Debating club . The club made me belong and find my place in a building filled with hundreds if not close to a thousand school children.
That's why I always wonder how the teachers do it ; to be teachers , parents and counsellors to appr. 50 children per classroom . The staff and the teachers at the school are able to give the neccesary attention and guidance to learners even though the tuition periods may be limited and the room might be packed hence the overall high pass rate .Here talents are harnessed and grown . I know of learners who have won numerous singing competitions after being taught Music by the Geography teacher . I also know of learners winning soccer matches after being trained for weeks by the Math/Language Teacher . My point is we might not have everything but we use what we have to get by .

Housing learners of different backgrounds and financial situations the school is objective and considerate when dealing with a learner's personal issues therefore making the teachers easily approachable .Yes , I'm no morning person but the morning classes have proved to be rather a sufficient reason to wake up early .They in turn have reduced late coming & absenteeism in school by more than 75% which clearly demonstrates the academic culture and discipline in the school.

That's why I'm quite confident of my future .I mean in this kind of schooling environment and also being surrounded by a great support structure why wouldn't I make it ?
