Proud to have been here

I am shocked to have read these comments on here. I was at the school for nearly 8 years and had a completely different experience. The staff and management were incredibly supportive during my time at the school. I still pop by every now and then and they are still as friendly, supportive and amazing as i remembered. The school has grown considerably over the past couple of years. They have remained successful with top academic, culture and sport awards. I am proud to have been part of this incredible school.

Misleading Expectations During Admissions Process – Reddam Durbanville

We recently went through the admissions process with Reddam House Durbanville, and parents considering this school should be aware of how the process actually works.

We attended the school’s showcase, where the experience was extremely positive. The staff were welcoming, and we were told that if all went well, our daughter could attend a play date within days and potentially even start shortly thereafter. Naturally, this created strong expectations for both us and our child.

We submitted our application immediately and paid the required R500 application fee. From that point onward, however, the process became unclear and frustrating.

Communication was delayed and largely limited to email, despite requests to speak telephonically. We had to follow up multiple times just to get basic updates. A play date was scheduled (which was presented as a required step), and this went very well.

Only after this stage did we become aware that a credit check formed part of the admissions process. This was not clearly communicated upfront, and we were not informed that factors such as credit profile or debt review status could impact our child’s acceptance.

Despite addressing financial matters and repeatedly trying to obtain clarity, we were left without a clear outcome while being led to believe that our child would likely be starting soon.

With time running out and no final answer, we went to the school in person to get clarity. Following this interaction with the principal head , the application was declined.

We escalated the matter to the Inspired Education Group. An investigation was conducted, but the final outcome remained unchanged, with reference made to the interaction during the in-person visit. So the weight is pressured from the principal.

While we understand that private schools have discretion in their admissions decisions, this process lacked transparency in key areas. Expectations were created early on that were not aligned with how the process ultimately unfolded, and important factors influencing the decision were not clearly communicated upfront.

Parents should be aware that admissions decisions may extend beyond the child’s suitability and include broader, subjective considerations that are not always made clear at the start of the process.

Our daughter had a very positive experience during her time at the school, which made the outcome particularly disappointing. Telling a child they will be comming to the school - later only to decline.. You can only image how a 4 year old and us a parents must feel.

This review is shared to give other parents a clearer understanding of what to expect when applying.

Horrible school with terrible head teacher and secretary

Terrible, school kicked out my child, didn't cooperate with our lawyers and would back track on info they gave us. Charged us for the 5 months our child didn't attend then told us they wouldn't tell us if our child had to repeat unless we payed them the fees (for the months out of school)

Worst leadership

Barry Niewoudt, the principal is a bully, he can't take being challenged constructively by parents regarding the implementation of non existent policies. Resorts to Autocratic tendencies such it will be this way because I say so. His teaching staff turnover is a high, the curriculum is good, but the teachers are a joke. The school is not transparent and very secretive

Horrible Reddam House Durbanville

Don’t go to Reddam House Durbanville. If you up with nonsense go ahead. Those people have the worst teachers in Western Cape. They don’t offer what they say. So if you joking the school, good luck for the stress.

Reddam house Durbanville is not worth it

Reddam House Durbanville is a school that has a good curriculum but the teaching is horrible. There is a teacher which is unqualified. The school can’t solve problems and blame the problems to you. The school has very bad hygiene. Toilet paper on the wall, left on poo toilets. Even one of the urinal flush is broken. The sports are horrible. You can’t even learn during a lesson, the student always asks the parent or the tutor. It is over priced.
