Poplar Academy

This establishment is an absolute joke. Since the day we started at this place, its been nothing short of a nightmare to deal with. I would not recommend this school to any parent. Staff changes faster than the weather does, you don't get given the correct financial information, thus resulting in sudden additional costs that weren't budgeted for. They moved premises during a school holiday without informing parents of this and sprung the news on us roughly 4 days prior to schools reopening that kids needed to make their way to Midrand campus, taking the convenience of Douglasdale campus away. There were additional cost for parents to make use of transport services from Douglasdale to Midrand. I have never experienced such incompetence of epic proportions by a school, not ever. I can assure you that this is not only my opinion but the opinion of many parents who eventually had to make alternative schooling arrangements for their kids. Absolute joke!

Closed the highs school close to end of the year, around august. After February the school started plummeting badly. They still haven't updated their main website. We do not have those sports at all.

I have had children at poplar for years. Teachers are not accommodating to learners with difficulties even though they do work hard with them in the junior phase, the senior phase belittle and swear at children. When the swearing at children was brought up promises were made yet nothing has changed. Teachers often seem overwhelmed with the direction of the school and where individuals stand. With such huge fees you would expect more information and communication from the governing body. The big boss has moved overseas and often tries to run the school from overseas giving the principle very little to work with. Some of the best teachers have left because of this.
