Pearson High School

My older boys were ok at this school but even then I did find the rules too strict and old fashioned. My daughter is not so happy at the school. She is a high achieving child, academically and musically, but she is a dancer and not a sports person and that has caused major problems. Pearson enforces sport attendance and even gives detention for not attending social tennis/cricket. They expect too much from the children who already do so much and don't seem to care about their mental well-being. There is definitely too much going on at this school, too much pressure and seemingly not enough enjoyment. The teachers may try their best but many seem to be under too much pressure with a heavy job load. This can lead to communication problems, leaving the parents in the dark a lot of the times, especially if your child is not very good at communicating and knowing what is going on either. Pearson focuses mostly on their sporting activities and I don't believe it should be this way. It's extremely hard to get exempted from playing sport even if it's at a social level. They require a medical certificate. Some parents have even had to take their children out of the school because of continual detention for not attending sport. I chose this school because it's co-ed and I live in the vicinity but to me it doesn't seem to be such a happy school for many of the kids. The pressure to achieve is even felt by the lower level sports teams. Unfortunately, at this large school, many children may also feel that they are just a number.

The teachers see their role as a job only. Going the extra mile to assist is not part that is praticed. Bullying is alive i have witnessed it with a family member, knoe the culprits, reported it, and still nothing was done. So sink or swim as a review below put it is par for the course as the educators are not equipped to handle, punish and solve these issues.

I had some really embarrassing videos I sell leak but it’s been fairly covered up since Pearson is so strict and my parents are rich. Also I totally changed what I looked like hair color and everything and somehow no one even noticed.

If you send you child to Pearson be aware that even though the motto is "We do our best" it is not the ethos of the school. They have taken on the slogan "Pearson, a school of excellence." What does this mean for the average student? They think they are useless as only attention is paid to those who are high achievers. If you want your child to have a well-rounded education where they get the chance to participate in everything don't choose to go here. When you go on the tour of the school you see amazing facilities, only for use my those who are "excellent" there is not time or space given to other learners.

Pearson is tough, there are some wonderful people there staff and students alike BUT the school feels like a prison, it’s suffocating.Pearson throws all its energy into sport and unless you are a top 10 academic and an exceptional athlete you are nothing, Pearson is full of superiority, and is still deeply rooted in outdated ways, and like I said the students aren’t a problem. They don’t care, to them the school is a business and it’s just as ruthless.

Very academically focused. It is a big school so if you can’t handle the pressure...perhaps another school is for you. Pearson is sink or swim, even though there are some golden teachers there.
