Concerned Parent Seeks Clarity on Oceans Private School;
As a parent of three kids attending Oceans Private School, I became concerned after reading some negative reviews on social media. Since I hadn't been invited to parents' meetings in a while, I decided to visit the school to get clarity on what I had been reading. I raised the following concerns:
1. Is the school registered with the Department of Education?
2. Are the teachers qualified?
3. Do you have teachers for all classes?
4. Why are you not calling for parents' meetings?
Management's Response
The management answered my questions satisfactorily, and I learned several things I wasn't aware of.
- *Registration*: The school is registered with the Gauteng Department of Education. They showed me the registration certificates displayed in the reception area.
- *Accreditation*: They're in the final stages of getting a center number with Umalusi.
- *Matric exams*: Matric learners have been writing exams at a designated center provided by the Department of Education. From next year, learners will write exams on campus.
- *Teacher qualifications*: Teachers are qualified, holding degrees or diplomas with relevant phase qualifications and SACE registration.
- *Teachers without SACE*: Some foreign-origin teachers had qualifications but lacked SACE certificates, leading to their replacement.
- *Teachers for classes*: The school has teachers for all classes.
- *Parent meetings*: The school has adopted one-on-one meetings with concerned parents.
Personal Analysis
I've seen that the school may lack some things to provide standard education, but they're trying their best. Challenges often result from parents indirectly influencing kids to be rude to teachers and management. As parents, if we write or talk negatively about the school, how do we expect our kids to behave? Let's work with the school and support them rather than criticizing baselessly. We need to raise our children together with the teachers.
The worst school ever children are sent away from school on the first day of the month. The reports are always incorrect they don't write some exams but they get marks for them. A grade one child is sent home for not wearing a school tie where is child supposed to go since the parents drop them off to go to work.I regret sending my children to that school. Am happy I found a better friendly and safe place for my kids.
My kids attend at Oceans private school in Midrand. The school has been kicking one of my child from class without any communication with me first time was because of missing stationery (no calls were made at all) and now he got kicked out of class only because he's wearing a school shirt without the school logo (it's August already) but he has a proper tie and jersey with a logo.
If the child is kicked out of the class on the 2nd period, with no communication _what are they doing at school all day? Why is there no communication? This is really frustrating to the students as they are missing school work every week.
I've taken all my complaints to the school head but it seems nothing is being done about any thing and my worry as a parent is that my child has to miss classes over such petty things yet no communication is being done to notify me as the parent but when school fees and events monies are overdue they will call non stop I've heard enough and I need help on how i can solve this matter as no one in the school seems to care. The worst thing is that their class average is sooo low, meaning that the kids are not being assisted or getting attention hence the whole class does not understand and they are failing.
Plssss help as im on the verge. I can no longer deal with the school.
The school has been nothing but a nightmare
Teachers ****** ******** then threatening to fail us if we speak
Not to mention school fees being the top priority above education
The ladies that run the admin office are nothing but a group of thieves that steal behind the director's and principals back
If i were a parent, i would really reconsider putting my child there because of the teaching methods, the teachers are so incompetent and illiterate they fail simple word pronounciations
Parents better pull their children out of there before its too late
That School Is The Worst Private School ever. There Aren't Even Enough Classes. They Increase School Fees For Every Newcomer That Comes Every Year. One of the Teachers Punishes Us And Even Hits The Students With A Stick Just To Feel Like A Man, Then Lies To The Parents When They Go And Ask Him Why He Did It. There Students Are Even Allowed To Carry Drugs, Weed Etc. In And Out Of The School.
The school claims to offer quality education but somehow they are lacking
Teachers seem inexperienced and they are constantly changing them.
There's a lot of bullying and the school doesn't take the offences of bullying seriously. The school doesn't follow protocol, sometimes they do not prepare/set exam papers on time.
Admin skills are very poor and they don't deal with problems brought into sight by parents/guardians and they delay a lot and don't get back to you on time.
There's a lot of demand on school fees and payments but yet no pressure on the high quality of education they should be offering in account of paying fees.
There is a lot of suspension due to small offences but bullying is not taken into consideration.
I'm not happy with the school
I feel like all my money I've been paying has gone to waste
The school is not a place where you invest in and get growth of income( idiomatic expression)
It would be great if the school can improve on these issues as well as try to upgrade it's standard to the way they claim to be
