Maryvale College

My experience at this school has been extremely disappointing. The teaching staff often appear more focused on internal gossip and conflicts than on supporting students. Many of the facilities are poorly maintained, and the tuck shop food is of a very low standard.

The school offers a limited range of subjects, leaving students with few academic choices. There also seems to be little opportunity for students to have their voices heard, as decisions are made without meaningful input from the student body. Some of the school's rules feel outdated and are applied inconsistently.

Bullying is a serious issue that does not appear to be addressed effectively, creating an unpleasant environment for many students. Considering the high school fees, I expected a much better standard of education, facilities, and student support. Unfortunately, I do not feel that the school provides good value for the cost.

I left Maryvale College because of the bullying that l was experiencing from both learners and teachers and the principal wouldn’t take me and other learners experiencing the same thing seriously. Some of the teachers are Xenophobic and some favour certain learners because of their skin colour. In certain subjects the teacher would give you a mark on a test based on how much she/he likes you. For me Maryvale was a living hell for me. I couldn’t have made a better decision by leaving and l wouldn’t even recommend Maryvale college to my worst enemy.
What hurts the most is that the leaders of the school favour certain students just because they know each other, they let people go up stairs in corners to kiss, smoke and do drugs, meanwhile if you had to tell one of those leaders that “could you please go get your backpack from upstairs” they would legitly say no.

I remember this one time when a learner got expelled for holding a knife at another learner, the learner had not even attempted to use it on the other learner (he had the knife because of a school project) the learner got expelled because the “victim’s” father works at the school BUT when it came to a serious case when 2 boys were caught in the bathroom eating another boy from the butt 🕳️, they didn’t do anything about it. Those boys were only given community service only. For me this is so unfair and unprofessional.

As a current student, my experience at Maryvale College has been extremely disappointing.

In my experience, the school does not take students’ concerns seriously. I have seen and experienced situations where students reported serious issues but felt ignored or unsupported. I have personally felt that reports of sexual harassment, inappropriate behaviour by staff, and other serious student safety concerns were not handled adequately.

There is also a severe lack of staff, which affects the quality of education. Students often go without consistent teaching, and the facilities do not reflect the high school fees that parents are expected to pay. In my opinion, the education and environment are not worth the cost.

I have also experienced what I believe to be unfair treatment of Black students. From my perspective, there is a culture of discrimination that makes many students feel unwelcome and unsupported.

Another major issue is the school’s culture around discipline and accountability. In my experience, some teachers have behaved in ways that I believe are inappropriate, and I have seen students become afraid to speak up because they fear retaliation or intimidation after reporting concerns.

The school also feels overly focused on money. It often seems that if you pay for something, you receive opportunities or better treatment, while genuine student wellbeing takes a back seat.

This review reflects my own experiences as a student. I hope the school takes these concerns seriously and makes meaningful changes to create a safer and more supportive environment for all students.

The school is extremely toxic! The amount of money you pay for school fees is not even worth it. The subjects offered are very minimal. Most of the staff is narcissistic. Bullying is prevalent. It's a small school and rumours spread like wildfire. Some of the staff is sexiest and chauvinistic. Some of the staff even think that being left-handed is a disability. They are not fans of natural hair. These are just some of the things that happen in this school.

A wonderful school environment which promotes Christianity within any individual. Everyone who is joined to Maryvale instantly becomes family. A capacity to grow your faith in God and develop your beliefs
