Shiny on the outside, rusted on the inside

The principal as of 2021, Jimmy Steele, is the biggest problem with the school. Doesn't have his priorities straight in the slightest. His only concern is making sure the "image" of the school is nice, while the actual school deteriorates.

Bathrooms are falling apart, fans are broken, and classroom floors are broken, but Steele decides to spend money on a costume for a mascot instead, and buy a golf cart only to vainly name it the "steele mobile" .

I know for a fact that he manipulates the teaching staff, and has even forced one of the *best teachers* to resign from his school. Steele is an enemy of the school and students. There is no disputing that.

There are a handful of teachers that really do love their job, love their students and go the extra mile. If you attend this school, you will know who they are. Unfortunately, there are also teachers that *do not belong in a position that requires them to teach or work with children*. Fortunately, I do believe that the good teachers outnumber the bad ones.

Absolutely do not attend this school thinking it is a magical placed overrun by positivity and school spirit. Toxic jock culture is very much present, wherein extremely problematic male students are excused for their behaviors simply because they are athletes. Meanwhile, the school doesn't have a cultural activity as fundamental as a choir.

Bullying is very much present. Smoking of marijuana and tabacco, and vandalism occur without the Principal even realising.

A "pain line" was instated as a way for students to directly contact the principal and air any grievances or problems, but I do not believe this has led to any improvements that the students as a whole can benefit from.

However, if an individual student has a private problem, there are indeed teachers that one could approach and get support from.

Disappointed

I was a student at HPP. I was in love with this school in Gr 8 but I found out just how little people actually care about the students. I was learner counsel and I saw that no teacher was interested in making the school greater. I'm disappointed.

How great Hoerskool Piet Potgieter is.

The school is great. It offers variety of sports such as tennis, swimming, netball etc. The tuckshop sells great food and the staff is very kind. The bathrooms are very hygienic as well as the classes.
