has limited subjects for Black students but seems to offer more options for others. It also has strict and sometimes unfair rules, like hair being required to be a specific length. Yet I’ve seen white students with hair over their eyes and forehead not getting the same consequences.
Even though I was a good student, I would still get points deducted for my hair. Meanwhile, one of the Afrikaans students with very long hair never sat detention once. So it makes me wonder what the point of these hair rules is.
Hair expresses who we are... it is part of our identity as Black people. So why should we be forced to cut it? Hair does not distract me from learning. I once cut my hair to the exact length written in the school rules and still got detention. It ruined my reputation for what? All because of my mini afro?
What is wrong with embracing our roots? Part of my family is American, and most of my family members have long locs and dreads it runs in the family. So you tell me if it is acceptable to threaten to kick a Black teenager with short natural hair but not even react to an Afrikaans child with 10cm hair.
This feels like discrimination. Hoërskool Frikkie Meyer is not a prestigious school, so don’t act like it meets high standards. I am not going to let a school in the middle of nowhere hold me back it is such an outdated and stuck in the past school.
And even now, there are still not enough basic subject options for Black students.
Best school around Thabazimbi because of sports and the results they achieve, white students matter more, for you to be seen as a black student you have to participate in sports or achieve something better. Very competitive and has a high racism rate, enter only if you're able to look out for yourself.
the perfect school for a white Afrikaner, only that.
If you’re a black student , go elsewhere. That’s all I have to say, it’s extremely bad. Limited subjects for black students—unlimited for white students. Racism? Oh get accept it as your new reality, nobody ever does anything about it.
It’s a good school if you’re white.
Very quietly racist, they’re not too open about it so it’s easier to deny. Whenever an Afrikaans learner would make a racist comment there are no consequences and the teachers just tell you “relax he was just joking around with you” Black kids are not granted the same privileges and opportunities as the white kids but we all pay the exact same amount of school fees. Subject choices as an English student are extremely limited.
Hoërskool Frikkie Meyer is one of the best schools with sport and academics. I recommend HFM Because everyone is friendly and so helpfull. You'll love it at HOËRSKOOL FRIKKIE MEYER (HFM)
