Soccer and athletic like running and ringball

Increase my talent and mental stipulation

My experience with this school has been fun and exquisite and I believe in the motto of the school of opportunities and I'd love to explore other various places to expand m y talent and gift. But if I put in my all in my sports and all in academic I might shine some light on my future

Sports over academics

I regret why I even went to the school .They’re main priority is to excel in sports (rugby ) nothing else matters to them .Academically the teachers look down on kids that don’t do well ,they can’t even teach ,they have favouritism, racism ,you name it .I did self study in most of my subjects in my matric year .I don’t recommend anyone to enroll at the school ,told all my cousins and siblings to enroll elsewhere .Just couldn’t wait to get the f*ck out of that school

It's okay

When compared to other public schools in South Africa, I think it's better. Otherwise, when you consider it as a school alone, there's lots they have to do to improve. There are many teachers who are there because they have to be, which affects a learner's quality of learning (we don't get worksheets, self study work that should be worked through with a teacher, etc.). Classrooms are clean, good food and large fields. Academics is not a priority in Hoërskool Birchleigh, there are good teachers, so it's not impossible for a child to do well, there are many top students from our school, but be warned that being the best in a sport (especially rugby) will get you things like rewards, badges, tours and bursaries, while you will receive no recognition for being the best in your grade (we're lucky if we get a top ten announcement), and it's sad because that's something that really motivates learners, you know. There's also a drug problem that teachers and police are trying to stop but it seems to be only getting worse. It's not a school that you will leave feeling it really made a difference in your life, but if you can deal with all of the above, you can survive Birchleigh.

It's FILTHY

Every review that has been said here is true, to top it off the school is filthy extremely filthy the classes and more especially the bathrooms, some toilets don't even flush before covid when we used to go to the quad, you would smell the urine from the toilets especially on a hot day.

Stop cruelty

My child attends this so called school and everyday when she back from school she complains about a teacher who is being racist towards the black learners she talks down on them and still swears them after thatand whenever we try to report her they brush it off I think police should be involved in this as a school we expect you to treat our kids with respect and tech them about right and wrong and this teacher is a grade 11 teacher

Please try another school

It's a zero star for me.Is this a business or a school.Look my child goes to school every day but his books have been written in till term two.My child had Maths homework on term 2 work but it's term three, and they were told to focus on term three work for the upcoming test that they haven't even done in class.four days before they start writing there is no scope,no work in the books and timetables arrived late.is this school setting our children up for failure? My chid asked the teachers what was going to be in the tests and non of them knew what they will be writing about. all they know is to talk down on our children, swear and call them names!what kind of school is this? Birchleigh HOERSKOOL what is happening?!!

Before you apply

All they care about is making a profit instead of considering education as priority. They also prioritise sports which is not bad if the learners are doing well with they school work. In this case our learners aren't all doing as much as a parent would expect them to do paying such a large amount of school fees.
It's not the worst school but sure isn't the best, barely even average. There's still a high rate of racism at school. If we blacks use the white card then they surely using the black card to they advantage.

Poor management

I would not recommend any parent to enroll they're children in Hoërskool Birchleigh. The school focuses more on sports than academic, students are not doing well and a majority of teachers cannot teach. The bathrooms at the school are of poor maintenance, and the classrooms desperately need renovations. Money is being spent on sports (rugby) than being used to renovate the school. The cafeteria food is horrible, they will sell spoiled food to student and Some of the teachers are racist. There is also a big issue with the school not communicating with both parents and students about what is going on. The office staff is beyond rude not only to students but parents as well.

Hoerskool Birchleigh

It cares mostly about sports
Its very filthy
There's no transparency e.g in my matrix year they didn't tell us if someone had Corona we didn't want to know who exactly but they had to sanitize the room obviously...The was video footage of the workers poorly sanitising the class rooms
The teachers are old with thick Afrikaans accents some speak about politics and some say racial things
The school its self is very unorganized

Uhm it's a nice school but it's very overcrowded and there's a lot of fake people. So I wouldn't recommend it. This is from my own personal experience.

Sports over academics

School only cares about sports and zero on academics. Learners can fail while being forced to attend practise till 5pm whereas they could be studying. Some teacher's are old and can't properly teach and most teacher's don't know what they are doing. Culture is not acknowledge much and they need better bathrooms instead of perfect fields.

It's just a school, certainly not the best

It's a nice school when it comes to fun activities such as sports. The school doesn't necessarily care about academics. Some of the teachers there have issues of their own so they will take their frustrations out on the students. Or they may have an agenda with a student and the student would get into a lot of trouble. Thank you

It's.... a school :/

The school doesn't care much about the learners unless they are doing some sort of sports. Sports is way more valued than Academics.
Learner complaints, especially about teachers, are ignored.
Many teachers there aren't doing their job "properly" and its negatively affecting the students.
The office staff is often rude and unwelcoming.
Money that could have been used to improve classrooms, toilets etc. has been used to build an unnecessary "Clubhouse" that is not being used. Roofs and gutters are literally falling apart but the school hasn't done anything about it.

Wish Hoërskool Birchleigh cared more about its students.

Not the greatest school but it gets the job done, I guess

Poor Service

The School's communication with parents is very poor, office staff is very dismissive and rude.As a parent it's really hard to get the right information because nothing is explained properly, the school hardly gets back to you on important queries, but expects parents to know what is happening and what to do.I just don't think the school puts the interest of the children first.

Is it really a school of opportunity?

Well it's a good school if you are into sport and all but on the other hand I strongly feel like they should reduce the numbers of learners in a class....there are literally 45 students in one class and MAYBE THE PRINCIPAL SHOULD START CARING ABOUT CULTURE ACTIVITIES AND ALLOW STUDENTS TO START THEIR OWN CLUBS ....oh and the food at the cafeteria is kak like who keeps food that's suppose to be consumed in less than 2 days the whole week ....and basically they should start treating students the same it doesn't mean if someone is on the top 10 they should treat them special.....to be honest the top 10 thing discourages students from working thier best because number 1 if they are not on the top 10 they feel dumb and not important

This school isn't all great

Overcrowded, most teachers don't put so much of an effort to ensure the child's space for the future economy. Learners complain about some teachers to the Heads and they dismiss the learners, even after realising that the teacher isn't doing so great of a job. This school only gives you an opportunity if you do sports, rugby especially. There's no room for creatives in this school for outspoken learners

Fairness

The school does not give the learners enough support in terms of sport as they value and support othersports over the other

The best school I've been to.

I learnt alot in HSB. And I'm forever grateful to the teachers of HSB. I find happiness there, and i will recommend anyone to go find their happiness in Hoërskool Birchleigh.
