Hoërskool Bergvlam

I have been a student at this school, my grades could have been so much better, if I moved to a school that rather was challenging. I reported bullying numerous times, but nothing came from it. And today it has a standing negative impact on my life, just because they care too much about their reputation and not about students wellbeing. The teachers themselves were overall great, there was one specific teacher who still teaches there, who discriminated against me and it influenced the other students as well, to bully me. Discipline wise, they are not very strict with things that matters and if you are a female, you will be discriminated against. They also do nothing about the racism happening amongst peers. Overall they have a lot of potential.

Education here is average but the school has a long way to go when dealing with issues such as sexism and harassment amongst students. They also hold on very tightly to outdated views of gender roles, the girls can still only wear dresses. The dress codes are demeaning and they have no issue sexulizing female students whilst policing what they wear.

Hi. I am grade 10 learner in my school Hoërskool Bergvlam. My experience in the school so far has been spontaneous. My first year was not what I hoped for because I was new. But after I got used to the school and meeting people everywhere I turn I became more proud of my school. This school has taught me to be more confident, dependent and caring. I enjoy being in this school and as the school day draws to an end we say our prayers to our heavnly Father. This school teaches us pride, responsibility, integrity, respect and ubuntu (our school values). We hosted a successful Inter high this year that put this schoool on the map.This schol is known for hosting "Innibos" (a festival) every year. We also do musical plays for the primary schools around our area! And I end off with our motto: "As U Wil En Ek Lief"

this school is absolutely terrible it is racist, sexist, and homophobic a girl has been physically assaulted recently and nothing has come of the matter. the boy was being disrespectful towards her and when she addressed him about it, he grabbed her by the throat and hit her on the nose with his palm. the deputy principal did not care for this, and suspended her, while he has gotten no disciplinary punishments. she was suspended for assault, when she only tapped him on the shoulder for not listening to her. when an eye witness wanted to testify, the deputy principal didn't give the witness the time of day to listen. the school cares too much for its reputation to take correct steps against this matter.
