Astonishing school

An amazing school full of great culture and the education is astonishing. With great standards and the use of the IEB schooling system nothing comes close.

Dinge by HMK is net "TE".

Creating world class citizens

I’m currently a grade 10 pupil in this amazing school. You will not find another school in South Africa where learners build each other up as they do here at Helpmekaar Kollege. Second, third and even a last place achievement matters as it’s all about participation and teamwork! The teachers are hand picked from the best of the best and the personal attention ensures students don’t fall behind. I’ve seen learners grow in confidence and appreciate what this school stands for and believe learners have their best opportunity to achieve their potential in this broad thinking and dinamic school. Super proud!!!

Despite some problems, I still love the school!

I’ve been in Helpmekaar from 9th grade to 11th grade. It’s a private school that’s great in size. Unlike many smaller private schools, Helpmekaar often ensures students don’t feel too entitled and arrogant, because of the amount of excellent students and talented individuals. Helpmekaar stresses on school spirit and keeping the Helpie chain strong, even way after graduating. Despite many students coming from well off families, there are plenty students from all backgrounds and social class. Diversity in race and culture has increased since I’ve started studying at Helpmekaar. Teachers are amazing (some scary oop-). Extra classes can be arranged. Helpmekaar somewhat lacks in the cultural and artistic extracurricular activities compared to sports. Discipline and respect is a must in the school. There are psychologists that help with academics and personal issues. Sometimes bullying is overlooked, because of how busy staff can be. But most bullying happens when teachers aren’t looking and it’s up to students to report to teachers. Then, it is properly addressed.

After really suffering psychologically with stress for a long period of time, I found that the school generally didn’t care much besides sending students to psychologists or suggesting a change of schools.

This school is high stress for students with absolutely no discipline and those who struggle socialising. There are efforts to help students who feel lonely or troubled, but it’s mostly due to student collective efforts to create groups that support others.

Traditions are fun and memorable. The principal is the absolute best I’ve had. He garners the respect of almost all students.

Though, what I’ve felt... I felt ostracised when it came to being taken out of school due to stress. I desperately wanted to stay and be thought of as part of the Helpie chain. Yet, no one truly cared for the individual and more for the group. Which is to be expected.

I’d send my children to Helpmekaar. Especially if you want children who aren’t overly arrogant and self centred. This school will teach your child that there’s more than just them. They will learn to respect others well and work hard to achieve success in the big world.

Toxicness

I feel crap being in helpmekaar, full of toxic people and its hard to find new friends, wish i could go to another school far away. One term to describe this school is toxicness...😿 They put all the posters around the school against bullying but I think its just for a good image
