Greatest school of all time.

Grey College is surely one of, if not the best schools in the world. Whether it’s on the sports field, in the classroom or even off school grounds the Grey College learners always give it their all.
The school creates the perfect enviroment for all the learners and tries to let different cultures blend. After 165 years of pure excellence I think there is no debate about how good Grey College is.

Grey College:The epitome of excellence

Grey College is a fantastic institution with renowned facilities, faculty, and alumni. The school is infused with 164 years of venerable character, tradition and legacies. It is a bilingual school that embraces diversity, much like our Rainbow Nation. Grey College's motto, "NIHIL STABILE QUOD INFIDUM"-Latin for "nothing is steadfast which is not true"- seems to permeate through all classroom walls, dorm rooms and dining hall as students at this institution are passionate, diligent and dutifully unwavering. At Grey College students pursue excellence in academics, culture and sports while embracing both tradition and innovation. In addition, Grey College has topped the charts and has been named the best secondary school in Africa countless times.

The school has top class teachers, state of the art facilities, a renowned sports academy to an award-winning choir. The facilities include an Olympic sized swimming pool, a hockey Astro field, eight rugby and cricket fields, 12 tennis and table-tennis courts, four squash courts, four soccer fields and a gym for the students, all of whom are state of the art facilities. However, besides these state-of-the-art facilities, Grey College also has a numerous amount of historical buildings due to its long history, this consists of the Hamilton hall, Reunion hall, Krause Library and the iconic Main Building.

Grey College also boasts its many notable alumni that have stood at the pinnacle of their respective fields, these include world record holder Wayde van Niekerk, the late Hansie Cronje, Olympic gold medalist Ryk Neethling, 45 Springboks and Anti-apartheid activist and Rhodes Scholar(a prestigious scholarship awarded to a select few to study at Oxford university ) Braam Fischer.

Classes usually consist of 20-30 learners with five classes per grade. Lessons are well organised and focused; students are respectful, and classes are rarely interrupted by bad behaviour. Grey boys learn by doing. With about six science labs and two IT centres, the learners can put their learnt skills to practical use.

All the teachers are very highly qualified, engaged and passionate about their subjects, and are willing to go the extra mile to help students that are struggling. Students are also welcome to go to the on-campus Learning Centre where there is a psychiatrist who able to support and help with any problems.

The school encourages students to voice out their opinions and have many systems in place for that. Grey College also promotes life-long learning, not just blatant studying. It seeks to instil wisdom, knowledge, experience, discipline and morality in its students; thus helping build character and nurture talents in preparation for adulthood.

The atmosphere at Grey isn't rigid, cold, and cutthroat but rather welcoming and passionate. Everyone is driven to work together toward excellence and enrichment. All the learners emulate values of compassion, respect and humility. The school also has a no-tolerance rule for bullying and discrimination and is situated in a very safe area in the city.

Here at Grey you can spend your time participating in some of the many extra-mural activities at Grey, like drama, singing, sports, journalism, debating and even gumboot dancing. Grey boasts the best rugby program in SA, an award-winning choir, an award-winning school newspaper editorial staff by Media 24, one of the best hockey, cricket and tennis programs in the country as well as its academic excellence.

Learners can access the school's library before, after and during school, whether it is to do research or just 'hang'. This one library holds all sorts of books from encyclopedias to your everyday storybook and is frequented daily by many students.

Grey College has three on-campus hostels: Murray House (Grade 8-9), Brill House (Grade 9-11) and Leith House (Grade 11-12). Besides just housing students, the hostels are also a supportive community, thus making it a 'home' away from home. Inside every hostel are excellent facilities like game rooms with television, ping pong and pool tables as well as common rooms where you can relax, hang out and unwind with your friends.

Here I quote the words of an Old Grey, "I did not build this school, but I claim every beam and bone as my own because here I find people who will laugh with and at me, but always out of love. I find a community that shows up when I ask them to and especially when I don't. With this, we build bonds that are everlasting here at Grey College. It really is so much more than a school."

If you have a passion, you can pursue it! If you want to try something new, you can try it! And if you have a dream, you can follow it! If you're going to grow and flourish, Grey College is the place for you!

Viva La Grey!
