Fish Hoek High School is fantastic, their results tell a story.
Fish Hoek High School is an amazing school. Learners of all races, religious beliefs and LGBTQi Status all thrive at this wonderful school. The recent event which was a WCED arranged event, although completely unacceptable has paved the way for this event to be used as a political mud slinging match. Everyone gets on well, staff and learners alike. Had this school been guilty of any form of discrimination, would the "unhappy" learners achieve excellent academic results, excellent results in the arts as well as sport?
FHHS, Do Better
Enough is enough. There has been so many disregarded acts of racism, homophobia and transphobia in this school, not only by other students, but by the teachers as well. Do better, Fish Hoek High School.

you guys harassed me which affected my education. i was nearly suspended over wearing shorts instead of a tiny skirt. i was nearly suspended for a week because of a piercing which wasn't that visible. i was not allowed to go home despite having endometriosis which causes me to have awful cramps which make me scream. micromanage your students to the point where they can't focus on actually learning. so glad i'm gone now. you guys suck.
Progressive School
Both my children and many family members have or still attend Fish Hoek High School. Not one of them has ever experienced any form of racism, seen racism in any form. The school is very progressive in all ways. I cannot recommend the school highly enough.
Top in the Western Cape
My older child matriculated from Fish Hoek High School and has just graduated from University with distinction. My younger child is currently at Fish Hoek High School. I could not ask for a better high school. Academics is one of the top in the Western Cape, Sport and especially Culture, features very high at Fish Hoek High School. Progressive and an absolute pleasure to be part of the Fish Hoek family.
Best school ever
As a parent of 2 kids who both enjoyed all their High school lives l can confidently recommend FHHS . There is a wide range of subjects, sports and extra murals. There is transparency and great communication channels. For as long as you do your best and shout for help you are guaranteed 100% support. From Principal, teachers to cleaners there is a great sense of unity. It is very rewarding to be part of this school and be actively involved in the life of the school.
Loving memories of FHHS
I loved FHHS! They have a wide range of subjects taught by teachers who are both serious about the work and entertaining at the same time. We were all lead by an amazing headmaster who did his best to be accommodating to everyone. He had an excellent way of deciphering whether an offender needed to be punished or receive treatment.
I had such a wonderful time as dance studies is taught unlike many other schools.

Best school ever
The teachers and counsellors offer me lots of support to help me overcome my learning barriers. The huge range of subject choices has allowed me to follow my dreams. There are so many extra-murals that you can never be bored. I really like the teachers and you get back from the teachers what you put in. The 2020 Matric results were so phenomenal that it has made me very excited about when I write my own Matric exams in two years time.

There is a place for everyone at this school. The teachers and other staff are very supportive. They have also handled covid very well, sport and culture activities are still active.

Excellence, unity in diversity
As a student I was offered a wide range of extra mural and subject choices. I thoroughly enjoyed waterpolo and badminton. I got fantastic tuition and support from teachers and counsellors. Now my kids are grown, they are enjoying the wonderful environment of Fish Hoek High doing subjects which delight them, playing sports, acting on stage, growing up in a diverse society. It's beautiful.
Out with the old, in with the new
I recently completed matric at FHHS. My experience at the school was amazing. I was challenged academically and socially, and I was able to develop my interests and skills through various after school programmes.
The school, however, is not perfect. There are still some old teachers who are stuck in the past. They are retiring year-by-year, and being replaced by young, dynamic and open-minded teachers. A good % of teachers are lgbt, which helped me when I started to explore my own sexuality.
My only negative opinion of the school is the few staff members who are discriminatory. I could name 4 teachers who have an outdated mindset of society. Hopefully they will retire soon and be replaced by a new era. Society has moved past the need for bigots and fools.

Racism Issues
Fish Hoek High School needs to get their systems in check. Racism gets brushed off, but once a student has a streak of blonde in their hair... DRESS CODED. The school has blatant indirect and direct racism towards students, and once these issues get brought to other teachers, we get told they can’t comment on the issue. Let’s not even forget the time a teacher told a group of Xhosa speaking girls to stop speaking that language and instead speak english, but this issue was never discussed and was then instead swept under the rug.

Great school! Yes some teachers are unfair but in every school you’re going to have that but calling out that specific teacher is incorrect as she is certainly NOT racist.

Im currently a student at the school, the teachers language is foul, some of them are extremely entitled and insulting, you’re often spoken down too. when *** ***** was still there she felt okay calling female students tarts and sluts and singling out learners to embarrass them.

There are many cases at this school where the students and teachers had bump heads, and guess who gets a detention, their parent called and put on daily report. Teachers aren’t being held accountable for the stuff they say or do, whether it’s unfair treatment to poc or sexist comments about what girls decide to wear. My friend had an incident with a teach this morning and was sent to the principal where he told her that she should be the bigger person and apologies to a teacher, who is a grown woman that overreacted. I absolutely hate this school and can’t wait to leave.

FHHS is not a school I would recommend to ppl. Even though the environment there is calm there is a lot of racist undertones from the rules and teachers that go unchecked. If you r a person of colour you may find it frustrating going to this school as I did and many others.

Fish Hoek needs change
School has racist teachers, when racist situations happen in front of teachers toward poc they tend to ignore it and move on like nothing happens, some teachers are straight forward racist like this teacher known by Mrs pretorius admitted she was racist in 2018 when students told her off about being racist when she was looking after us because our dance teacher wasn't there. There are many other racist teachers there but I can't speak about it since I was not there to see for myself.

Environment
Most teachers always try to pick fights with the kids at the school for really irrelevant reasons. A simple thing like asking for another explanation or disagreeing with a fact can land you in detention. The social experience is amazing but as a working and learning environment the school fails to make us feel welcome and like our education matters, it's more like they just want us to do that work and that's it.
Fish Hoek High School
The deputy principal once disrupted my exam to tell me to meet her in her office afterwards, no explanation as to why. As an extremely anxious person, this completely occupied my mind for the remainder of the exam and actually reflected itself in my results. After the exam I went to her office where she began to question my motives for having such an "inappropriate" hairstyle. Now I'm a girl and at the time I had my hair cut fairly short into a pixie cut but had it shaved in such a way that it had an undercut. She called it inappropriate and rebellious; it should be known that I had never gotten a detention in my life so she singled me out and labeled me a troublemaker all based on my appearance. Let's not even mention the time a teacher called a girl a prostitute because she was wearing makeup.
It's not my first option
I did not think it was a good school for academics or if you want to excel in sports, although the culture aspect was very good. I don't believe that all of the teachers are enthusiastic when it comes to academics.
My experience as a FHHS student
I am a Grade 8 student and I find the teachers very pleasant and it's fun to learn all the teachers learning preferred learning styles like one loves to tell stories and another likes to give us time to try things before we do it as a class to see how well we know the topic we are learning and even in this time of need they are taking time out of their day to make sure we get the best education they can give us♥️♥️♥️♥️ Fish Hoek High school also has an amazing principle who enjoys what he does and makes sure we are safe in and outside of school so over all I think Fish Hoek High school is a great place to be.

It is a very hard working school with hard working students and staff. The level of education is very good and is in a safe and good area with good atmosphere.
