The BHS Experience

The place of hidden gems is the perfect way to describe this school. Starting grade 8 in 2019 and matriculating in 2023 I am able to say that I am a proud Bryanston Student. The teachers and grade controllers not only provide you with the best material for your subjects and tests but they provide you with what you need to be a gentlemen or lady. The dress code to the behaviours you are taught during my time in this high school has truly made me into who I am today. Whenever help is needed teachers will go out their way to help if YOU go out your way to try.
At the time of matriculating they have been making changes to the school, improving bathrooms, retiling and repainting etc, after numerous announcements from the school they still have more plans to improve the school.
The sports and culture programmes have some amazing teams that perform nationally, the coaches will support you and guide you to be the best you can be as much as they can.
The peers I made and the teachers I met impacted me for life and I am proud to have had the blue flame in me during my high school career and I would not want it any other way.

The poor infrastructure

The teachers in the school are great and the education level is satisfactory. My problem is the schools neglect to its infrastructure. There have been many complaints about the uneven brick-quads at the school which have caused many problems from students tripping, falling and even sometimes scrapping their knees off but the school has refused to do anything about it. The schools second and third floor corridors have huge crack marks which seem very unstable also accompanied by the hanging concrete slabs and metal cables above our heads which could fall at any time. The pillars holding up the three storey buildings are in terrible condition which leads to the constant fear of something falling on us or collapsing, which the school does not seem to take very seriously. The school also fails to accommodate for learners who may be absent for long periods of times due to medical issues because as soon as they return they are rushed to complete tests and exams and are made out to be the ones at fault for missing out work and sometimes teachers make it difficult for these learners to communicate and ask them for help due to their sometimes rude attitudes. Overall the school is Okay but needs to pay more attention to the infrastructure problems.

The bad infrastructure

The school has amazing teachers and an average education level, my problem is how the infrastructure and buildings are very old and unstable. The school has refused to fix or do something about the uneven brick-quads where learners fraternize during breaks and before/after school even after multiple cases of children tripping and scrapping their knees, and even after various complaints about it. Also not to mention the concerning cracks in the floors of the second and third floor corridors and the pieces of concrete and cables hanging aimlessly above our heads as we walk. And from a student's standpoint it's very jarring and scary to have the fear that something might just fall or break while your walking to your next class or hanging about. Overall the school is average but the infrastructure issues need more attention.

Proud Bryanstonian

My son started grade 8 in this school 4 years ago he is currently in grade 11. He was not coming from any Jhb school but from northwest , he adjusted so well with the help of all teachers. The teachers are so caring and very helpful. This school made learning so easy and enjoyable for my child. I love the Bryanston High, to me this is the best high school in Johannesburg. They just need to work on the infrestructure especially classroom but other than that, they know what they are doing and they have commited and professional teachers. These teachers have the best interest of their learners at heart. This school is so much better than all these expensive private schools. Keep up the great work Blue flame.

The issue of influence

I personally played in the first team in bryanston high so i can speak truly when saying that the teachers influence and provide their sportman with a (illegal)physical boost as well as there has now been 3 cases of pedophilia amongst the teachers of which 1 was kept quiet about and i personally do know that student.the school also allows for many issues that can harm students ,it is a very dangerous environment with a very fragile structure endangering students

Bryanston in a nutshell

Teachers are good however there’s definitely something lacking in the office area, the buildings are dirty, tattered and damaged. Simply a miracle that no one has been hurt from concrete falling from the roof, sometimes our students stumble across concrete lying on the floor. Electrical wires are also just lying dangerously around. The premises are in very bad condition
